Butterfly Pavilion
Over 20 regional species live and reproduce here
Included in your admission
Visit one of the largest butterfly pavilions in the world: Xcaret’s Butterfly Pavilion, with a free flight area of 3500 m2 (37,673 sq ft) and a height of 15 m (49 ft). Over 20 regional species are exhibited and reproduced here, among which you can distinguish the owl-eye, blue and red-eye butterflies.
Walk through an area of jungle where you can find butterflies that prefer the shade, and another area more exposed to light, where you will find those that love the sun. This latter species was highly valued by the ancient Yucatan Peninsula culture, who considered them the souls of warriors fallen in battle.
We recommend you visit the Butterfly Pavilion early in the morning. When the sun begins to warm, is when there are more butterflies in motion.
At the entrance of the pavilion, you can visit a section dedicated to the life cycle of butterflies. It starts when they are tiny eggs and go through the larvae and pupae stages, until their final metamorphosis.
Witness their miraculous process of transformation!
Hours: 8:30 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.
