Sacred Mayan Journey
Included in your admission
Live one of the oldest traditions of the pre-Hispanic era, the Sacred Mayan Journey. Every year, Xcaret recreates the pilgrimage of the Mayan canoers who paddled to Cozumel Island, to worship the goddess Ixchel.
They brought offerings in their canoe, in search of her divine message, which they brought back to their communities in the midst of a great celebration.
You can participate as a canoer (you must register and train for six months at the venues defined by the park), or as a visitor in the ceremonies to farewell and welcome the canoers.
Given the sensitive situation that is being experienced around the world by the evolution of the COVID-19 pandemic, Sacred Mayan Journey, announces the cancellation of its 2020 edition in accordance with the recommendations and measures of the World Health Organization to cancel Massive events. Our priority is and will continue to be the health and well-being of the participants and visitors who make this tradition possible year after year.
We appreciate the support and understanding of this preventive measure and reiterate the commitment of Travesía Sagrada Maya to the rescue of this cultural heritage. We hope to be able to quickly resume this tradition that we have carried out in Xcaret for 14 years.
