Living Witnesses to History: Discover in Xcaret the Importance of Sea Turtles

During your visit to Xcaret, you will have the opportunity to witness the oldest species in the world: sea turtles. Although they have survived for millions of years, they are currently facing the threat of extinction.

Of the seven species of sea turtles that exist in the world, all nest on the coasts of Mexico, and four of them in Quintana Roo. For this reason, Xcaret Park is committed to their protection through the Sea Turtle Conservation Program in the Riviera Maya, together with Flora, Fauna, y Mexican Culture, A. C.

This program guarantees their care until they reach a sufficient size to face their natural enemies. Then, they can be reintroduced into the sea with a greater probability of survival. At Xcaret, you can observe turtles of different sizes in different areas, such as natural pools or habitats with windows that allow you to watch them swim and rest.

Through this experience, you will understand the importance of conserving these majestic specimens and their crucial role in the marine ecological balance.
