Flamingos are very social birds that live in large communities, this allows them to take care of each other and protect themselves from the dangers of the environment.

Their gleaming pink bodies, long and curved beaks, small heads, long legs and pronounced necks make them one of the most interesting and amazing creatures in Xcaret.

Flamingos are migratory birds and a species considered as endangered, each year they travel long distances to make their nests and have their babies. One of the most important nesting zones is the Ría Lagartos region in Yucatán.

At Xcaret we have a special program to protect this species, including the rescuing of eggs and babies in the field and a reproduction program in the park’s facilities, which you can admire in your visit to the park. Inside the reproduction area the flamingos make their mating rituals, build their nests and they can even fly. Since the beginning of the program we’ve had 55 births out of a population of 96 adult flamingos.

Apart from the reproduction area, you can admire the Flamingos in various sites inside the park, giving our landscape a distinct and characteristic special touch.
