Sacred Pre-Hispanic Journey

Witness the oarsmen departure to Cozumel Island

Included in your admission

Live one of the oldest traditions of the pre-Columbian era, the Sacred Journey. Every year, Xcaret recreates the pilgrimage of the ancestral canoers who paddled to Cozumel Island, to worship the goddess Ixchel.

They brought offerings in their canoe, in search of her divine message, which they brought back to their communities in the midst of a great celebration.

You can participate as a canoer (you must register and train for six months at the venues defined by the park), or as a visitor in the ceremonies to farewell and welcome the canoers.
