Mexico, an Open Book in Xcaret

Have you already been to Xcaret’s Bookstore? You will be surprised to find novelists such as Del Paso or Fuentes sharing the hallways with passionate historians such as Kattz or Benitez. Of course, we could not go without Elena Poniatowska, the inspirational poetry of Jaime Sabenes, the prestige and undisputable reputation of Octavio Paz and many other authors who will transport you to the past with their impressive narrative and will have you witness the events that directed the path of our country.

Following the philosophy of making Mexico known to the world, Xcaret opens a space to its visitors that concentrates the highlights of its vast culture, from its folklore, and culinary arts, to the works of its most outstanding writers. The concept of this bookstore is one hundred percent Mexican, that is, only books by Mexican authors and/or foreign authors writing about Mexico, which is why it is categorized as Specialty Bookstore.

Currently, the collection includes around 1500 different titles, distributed into five sections, Science and Humanities, Art, Literature, Children and Audio and Video.

You will also find books on pre-Hispanic history and customs, all the way to books on the Independence and Reform, all narrated by expert researchers on the matter.

Below, in the Art section, you may find large format books; beautiful and colorful hardcover books with titles such as: Museo Nacional del Virreinato (National Museum of the Viceroyalty) or Historia de Dios en las Indias (History of God in the Indies), Los Olmecas, El Arte de la Pintura Rupestre (The Art of the Cave Paintings) and Los Grandes Pintores Mexicanos (The Great Mexican Painters), El Arte Novo Hispano (New Hispanic Art), and suggestive cookbooks such as La Cocina de la Nueva España (The Cuisine of New Spain).

The section for children offers the main national storytellers with titles such as: Gregorio Vuelve a México (Gregorio Returns to Mexico), Los Totales (The Totals), El Festival de la Calavera (The Festival of the Skull) and Cómo Hacer una Piñata (How to Make a Piñata).

On one side of the bookstore you will find Xcaret Cinema, where there are exhibits of movies from the Great Golden Age of Mexican Cinema, with actors such as Pedro Infante, Mario Moreno “Cantinflas”, Germán Valdez “Tin Tan” and María Félix, among others. Delight yourself with the splendid performances and discover why they are the immortals of our Mexican cinema.

In the near future there will also be a coffee service in the upper floor of the bookstore, book presentations, author conferences and reading clubs.

In your next visit to the park, don’t forget to come by this space in the Main Plaza. You will see that there is nothing like Mexico!
