Xcaret New Residents
Last December, Poloc, a young 12-year old male tapir, arrived at
Xcaret from the Miami Metrozoo. After months of work and negations, our
Conservation, Reproduction and Exhibition Plan for one of Mexico’s endangered
species was finally implemented in coordination with the Guadalajara Zoo and
Chiapas’ Zoomat.
Poloc was born in captivity and we hope he will reproduce at Xcaret.
In November a blue "Morphos peleides" butterfly arrived back at
the park after an absence of 2 years.
Fortunately, we have been able to reproduce this species and have several
in a 4-month larval stage, so they should be hatching from their cocoons
very soon.
