Marine turtles are an endangered species. It has been estimated that for every 1,000 born, only one will reach the adult stage.

The State of Quintana Roo receives the nesting of the greatest number of green sea turtles (Chelonia mydas) and the loggerhead turtles (Caretta caretta) on its beaches.

From 1996 to 2004 we have protected over 24 thousand marine turtle nests and have released more than one million 600 thousand hatchlings.

This year the goal is to reach two million released hatchlings.

Our Turtle Care Objectives:
- Protect and monitor the turtles, their nests and their hatchlings.
- Develop programs of environmental education involving the communities, the staff and guests of our tourism projects.
- Consolidate the participation of all sectors of our population.
- Develop a data base and participate in the national statistics on the protection of marine turtles.
