Xcaret Butterfly Pavilion, precious butterfly sanctuar
An everlasting symbol of freedom, innocence and beauty. Butterflies in Mexico are one of the most beautiful insects in the world that play an essential role as plant pollinators and are also excellent indicators of climate change.
The ancient Aztecs believed the fragile bodies of butterflies treasured the souls of deceased warriors that died in battle or where sacrificed.
Xcaret's Butterfly Pavilion is the first butterfly breeding facility in Mexico. The structure is 49 feet high and has nearly 38,000 sq. ft. of free flying space, the largest butterfly facility in the world.
We recommend scheduling your visit to Xcaret's Butterfly Pavilion in the morning when the butterflies are more active. You can also witness the miraculous metamorphosis of butterflies when they emerge with their new wings.
Xcaret's Butterfly Pavilion features only regional species native of the Yucatan peninsula in their natural habitats and its caretakers work diligently with some 5,000 butterflies in an intensive breeding program for 20 endemic species.
This one of the most dreamlike places of Xcaret and it will be one of the most pleasant activities for children and families you can enjoy during your Cancun vacation.
