Xcaret means “little inlet” and it owes its name to this enchanting sea water entrance which forms an Snorkeling Inlet of beautiful blue tones, home to hundreds of tropical fish and a sacred site for Mayan culture.
This inlet, full of history and mysticism, was one of the most important ports of shelter for Mayan seamen who navigated along the Yucatan peninsula coastline transporting merchandise in long canoes.
It was also a place honored by the Mayan culture from where they set off to Cozumel to worship the goddess Ixchel, after purifying their bodies and souls in the sacred sinkholes.
Surrounded by the exuberant jungle and the Caribbean Sea, Xcaret’s Snorkeling Inlet invites you to immerse in its magical waters and discover its fascinating marine life.
The Inlet, with a maximum depth of 4 feet and no currents or waves, is the ideal place for learning to snorkel. In this fantastic natural inlet you will find the perfect place to practice your snorkeling while admiring the colorful and graceful fish that inhabit its crystalline calm waters. Its easy access makes it perfect for children too!
All around the Snorkeling Inlet you will find beach loungers, chairs, tables for eating and hammocks; sit or lie down and enjoy a pleasant moment under the warm sunrays while admiring the inlet’s exciting landscape. We also have restaurants and bars just a step away.
