The intention of recreating the Sacred Mayan Journey in the traditional places like Xcaret, Cozumel and Playa del Carmen, is to establish an ancient practice that can, over time, form a bond of cultural identification at various levels to local residents as an incentive for local, national and foreign tourism.

It also seeks to:

Achieve a diversification of the cultural offer of the area through a multidisciplinary project (anthropology, music, and dance, physical effort) to strengthen and instruct on the original culture of the area, left to one side over the years for the tourism expansion.

Strengthen communication and cooperation between public and private institutions of Cozumel and the Mayan Riviera Xcaret in a common effort to enrich the cultural offerings of the area.

Instruct the public into the ancient Mayan practices, especially in the worship of the goddess Ix Chel, who was considered the mother goddess of the ancient Mayan culture and the region.

Involve the local community to strengthen the Mayan culture as the original culture of the region, which was at risk because the migration of thousands of workers, professionals and tourists who come to the region. Therefore, we encourage the active participation of youth in Cozumel, Playa del Carmen and Xcaret to form part of the sacred journey as rowers, underlining the challenge (achievement) that this implies and months of physical preparation required.
