On Monday, February 22nd of 2010, Mexican President Felipe Calderon Hinojosa received at Xcaret to the presidents and special guests who have joined at the Riviera Maya to talk about a better integration of Latin American nations.
This event closed the first day of the Group of Rio Summit. Guided by Mayan maidens and warriors, and with the Pre-Hispanic music of Grupo Kay surrounding them, the special guests walked through the jungle to the restaurant “La Isla”. Drummers from Tabasco welcomed them as they were crossing the huge pink winkle made of stone at the entrance.
Once at “La Isla”, Xcaret delighted guests with the following cultural program:
Pre-Hispanic ceremony with the “Cosmos Opening”
Oaxaca: Pineapple flower Dance, Feather Dance
Michoacán: “Pirecua”, “Tumbiecha”, “Old men’s dance”.
“Popurrí revolucionario”: “Adelita”, “Carabina 30/30”, “Adiós del soldado”, “La Rielera”.
Jalisco: “Niño perdido”, “El viajero”, “Jarabe Tapatío”, “Floreador”, “Son de la Negra”
Ending: “México en la Piel” song, with the whole Xcaret cast and the flags of the nations invited to the Rio Summit.
The dinner menu consisted of:
-Azteca salad (lettuce, rose petals and buds, veal slices with tequila vinaigrette; dried chili oil with tomatoes, Mexican yam beam and avocado squares tower.
-Lime soup
-Grilled grouper fillet in squash blossom sauce, potato in huitlacoche slab, pumpkin chambray, yellow and red cherry with asparagus.
-Two chocolate pyramid with hibiscus & cinnamon-soaked xoconoztle, and soursop & mango sherbet pearls.
-Traditional Mexican candies
In addition to the main menu, there were 15 different options in order to attend the special guest’s specifications.
Dinner was accompanied with the best labels of Mexican wine from the Xcaret wine cellar “Vino de México”.
At the end of the event, presidents and special guests were amazed with the cultural richness of our Mexico and gave a standing ovation to the Xcaret cast. Felipe Calderon congratulated to the Xcaret staff for the successful of the festive meeting.
